How do I make the sparkler look like it belongs? I've tried googling lighting tutorials but can't find the one I had a week ago that was perfect. grrr...

Did you get it figured out? Sorry...I'm super behind and trying to catch up on reading all the entries on my Reader from everyone! If you didn't get it figured out, can you explain a little more about what you're wanting? Are you wanting the rest of the photo to match the brightness of the sparkler a little more? I'm guessing you're not wanting to add sparkles. I have no idea if I can actually give any helpful suggestions:-). Just thought I'd ask for clarification in case anything helped. Have you tried duplicating the photo, setting the top photo to "screen" and adjusting it's opacity down until you get what you want. I'm probably completely off for what you're wanting! I think it can be maddening to see something or know in your head what you want and not be able to get the info needed to do it. Oh, and it drives me crazy when I lose tutorials!
